Financial Aid Opportunities

We never want cost to be the only thing between an athlete and the court. Start with the Rocky Mountain Region, which offers need-based financial assistance to qualifying families across the region.

Families can also apply for club-sports scholarships through Chance Sports, a nonprofit that helps young athletes access club programs. Aid through either source is not guaranteed — awards are reviewed and granted on each organization's own criteria. Questions? Email admin@coloradoboom.com.

Good Sideline Behavior

A quick guide to being the parent every coach and player wants on the sideline.

Cheer effort over outcome, let the coaches coach, and be a calm, positive presence after tough matches. Your athlete plays better knowing home is a judgment-free zone.

If a match or decision raises strong emotions, wait 24 hours before contacting a coach. It keeps conversations productive and models composure for the players.

Support all players positively, respect officials and opposing teams, and leave the coaching to the staff. No sideline officiating or coaching from the stands.

Start with an email to admin@coloradoboom.com. We follow a clear chain of communication so every concern reaches the right person.

Arrive on time, keep up with fees and commitments, and pitch in at tournaments (work/volunteer shifts). A strong team culture starts with engaged families.

Rules of Volleyball — The Basics

New to the sport? Here's enough to follow the action.

Most junior matches are best two-of-three sets. Sets are played to 25 points (rally scoring — a point on every serve), win by two; a deciding third set is played to 15, win by two.

Three contacts per side before the ball must cross the net. A block does not count as one of the three.

When a team wins the serve back (a side-out), players rotate one position clockwise. Serving order and court positions must be correct at the moment of serve.

A back-row defensive specialist who wears a contrasting jersey. The libero can't attack a ball that's entirely above the net or serve in most leagues, and substitutes freely without counting against the team's subs.

Setter, outside (left-side) hitter, opposite (right-side) hitter, middle blocker, and defensive specialist/libero. Teams typically run a 5-1 or 6-2 system depending on age and level.

Net contact, foot faults on the serve, double hits, lifts/carries, four contacts, and back-row players attacking in front of the 10-foot line. Officials also watch rotation and alignment at the serve.

RMR Essentials for Parents

The region-specific answers families ask about most.

Most RMR events charge about $10 per person per day at the gate (plus a small processing fee), with $5 discounts offered on multi-day events. Passes are per person — bring everyone who's attending.

Yes, through a defined process. RMR uses TruVolley rankings and guidelines for playing up an age division. In the youth league (RYL) a team may play up, but for the entire season. Talk with your director before committing.

Players new to RMR can start with a low-cost RYL/tryout membership (about $20) and upgrade to a full-season membership when they sign with a club. Prior-season members stay valid through August 31, so no extra tryout membership is needed.

Some larger tournaments require booking lodging through the event's official housing partner in order to participate. Always check an event's rules before booking travel.

Match schedules and court assignments post on TM2/AES a few days before each event, and live scoring is run digitally on-site. Season rankings are published by the RMR.
